Forest School |
"...I liked the spider's web and we found out who ate who..." |
Classes attend for one morning each week over a six-week period where the children learn how a tree grows or a flower gets pollinated and what actually does live in the woods behind our houses.
Woodland crafts are often taught, a campfire enjoyed and pine needle tea sampled. All the while through these various games and activities, important aspects of the national curriculum are being learnt.
Forest School is a system of schooling that started in Denmark as an integral part of Early Years Education in the 1980s. It has proven to be an effective way of increasing confidence and self-esteem.
